“So, full disclosure, I know nothing about pools. I just bought a house with a pool, and champion came highly recommended as a pool service. Figured that was a good idea seeing as I don’t yet know how to keep a pool correctly chlorinated myself. Then I went out of the country for a month. When I came back, I had two months worth of water bills where they had spiked from $100/mo to $550/mo. All along, Champion Pools had been servicing weekly, saying “everything looks good. Just added some chemical.” We started looking for the leak - clearly it had to be something with the pool. I’ve had other houses with irrigation leaks in the past, or leaky toilets, and nothing had ever more than quadrupled my water bill, so it had to be the pool. We ventured out to the pool for the first time all winter (as there was no need, since it was being serviced) and there was standing water all around the pool. Sure enough, it was a busted auto fill valve. When we called to cancel our contract with champion, we were assured that there was “no possible way” they could ever see anything wrong with the pool. When I called another business to see what we needed to do to get it repaired, his first question was “Is the pool overfilled? Should be obvious” it was. The water was 3” above the calcium line along the edge. Not to mention the standing water around the pool that I would think a *pool service* company would have the decency to inform us of. In the end we learned our lesson: The float valve was only going to cost us about $100 to replace, and the crappy service from champion only cost us about $800 in extra water bills. Go with someone else.”
